First UK swine flu death confirmed in Scotland


A patient being treated in a Scottish hospital for swine flu has become the first in Britain to die from the virus, the government has confirmed.


A statement released by the Scottish Government said: "With regret, we can confirm that one of the patients who had been in hospital and had been confirmed as suffering from the H1N1 virus, has died today.
"The patient had underlying health conditions."
The statement added that, at the family's request, no further details would be released to allow grieving time.
The Scottish government has said that one of ten people who were being treated in hospital in the greater Glasgow area.
