WHO raises flu alert level

The World Health Organization has raised its pandemic alert level from three to four after a meeting to discuss the global threat posed by the swine flu virus.

More than 140 people have died from the disease in Mexico and it has also spread to several other countries.

The head of the WHO's Global Influenza Programme, Dr Keiji Fukuda, said containment of the virus "was not a feasible operation".
